The American olympist Raul Martin was the center of controversy when he tested positive during random drug screening. The young athelete stated that he was taking testosterone injections to treat a condition commonly known as congenital micropenis. An olympic review board later determined that Raul would not be disqualified however, due to the fact that gymnastics really aren't a sport after all. In an ironic twist of fate though the board decided that Raul would have to participate in the women's competition as a consequence of his lack of readily identifiable male characteristics. As a result the olympian was forced to perform on the uneven bars and the balance beam for which he had no training. Despite his greatest effort however, he failed to quailfy in every event but his floor routine. "I didn't know what the hell to do on the uneven bars so I just swung around in circles until I got sick," said Raul. "When it was my turn to do floor exercises, I knew that was my moment to shine because it was the only event I was familiar with," he said. And shine he did, as he became the first gymnast to score 10s across the board in the event, sadly however the boys dream of gold came to a halt when he suffered a serious groin injury on the balance beam. "I slipped and the next thing I knew my nuts were up in my throat," said Raul. Fearless to the end the young lad announced later at a press conference that he would return to the 2004 olympics and vowed to compete against men next time.
